Best Michigan Road Trips for Fall

Michigan has beautiful scenery year-round. The summer offers greenery and beautiful sunshine and in the winter, a blanket of glistening snow covers the hills. But autumn offers something special. The changing of the leaves up north is worth the road trip; here are a few routes we suggest when making your Michigan road trip this fall.

Old Mission Peninsula
Wineries and vineyards populate this region along Grand Traverse Bay. The Grand Traverse Lighthouse offers beautiful views and nearby hiking trails for an outdoor adventure in the crisp autumn air.

M-22
This road runs from Traverse City to Empire, cutting around the Leelanau Peninsula with many stunning overlooks and small towns to explore. Make sure to check out the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for a sight you’ll never forget.

Tunnel of Trees on M-119
Drive underneath beautiful tree lines decked out in autumn’s full range of colors as you take this leisurely country drive. On your way, stop by the Pond Hill Farm for some goodies, and then finish up with a stop at the Sturgeon Bay Dunes.

River Road National Scenic Byway
This journey starts off in Oscoda by Lake Huron and heads into the Huron-Manistee National Forest. You’ll experience a stunning landscape, featuring Foote Pond Overlook with breathtaking views of fall foliage.
