Everyone knows the financial issues faced by the city of Detroit and it is negatively affecting the everyday lives of millions of people. And even though we’re not within the city limits of Detroit, here in Rochester Hills, that doesn’t mean we don’t try to visit our state capitol as frequently as possible and appreciate all that is available in just a half hour drive. As a dealer of a Detroit brand it is especially great to be able to visit the Motor City.
That’s why today we’re proud to write about Chrysler’s involvement in a potential plan to help save one of those treasures of Detroit we love to visit – the Detroit Institute of Arts.
You might think profitable business in Detroit would get out while they can, but for the big auto companies that helped found the motor city, it has only strengthened their resolve to help.
“Chrysler Group is committed to playing a positive role in Detroit’s revitalization,” the company said in a statement found in an NBC news article. “Accordingly, we are reviewing the DIA’s request.”
While it wouldn’t be entirely on the automakers to help support the DIA, as their donations would just be part of a larger fund collected by other various organizations and companies, it’s nice to know that we sell a brand that truly cares about the community.
Chrysler announced their five year plan for the brand earlier this week. Two of the biggest changes were that Dodge will become exclusively a performance brand and the SRT will now be housed under Dodge. SRT will also get new leadership according to a press release.
While the influence of SRT being brought into the fold of Dodge products likely won’t be felt for a couple years, we are excited that all Dodge cars, trucks and SUVs will likely get a sportier feel.
According to an autoblog.com article Dodge “Journey will be turned into something rip-roaring by SRT in 2017.” SRT influence will also be seen in the 2016 Dodge Dart. There aren’t a lot of details yet, but one thing that is for certain is a Dart SRT with a supercharged engine on an all-wheel-drive PowerTrain.
Not every offering in the Dodge vehicle lineup is excited by the five-year plan however. Production of the Avenger will end in 2014, while production of the Grand Caravan will end in 2016. While the Chrysler 200 will address the avenger’s portion of the market, there is no update on if FCA will offer a minivan in another capacity.
Chrysler makes some of the most beloved vehicles in America. They are an American car company that knows what people in this country look for in a new car and they offer a lineup featuring some of the most recognizable models in the market. This sentiment was further vindicated by a new consumer survey by Strategic Vision in which seven Chrysler vehicles took home honors.
In the survey, consumers were asked to rank attributes of their vehicle and dealership experience on the “The Edwards Commitment Scale™ [which] ranges from 1=Hate it, 2=a Failure, 3=Unsatisfactory, 4=Satisfactory, 5=Excellent, 6=Delightful and 7=Love it” according to a Chrysler press release. This information was then used to determine the “Most Loved Vehicles” list, with the highest scoring vehicles given the honorary title.
The survey included choices for several categories of vehicles including small car, large car, mid-sized SUV, specialty coupe, full-size pickup, and heavy duty pickup. The biggest winner was the Dodge brand which brought in four of the seven spots. Additionally, RAM took two and Jeep netted the final spot.
Dodge Dart (small car)
Dodge Durango (mid-sized SUV)
Dodge Charger (large car)
Dodge Challenger (specialty coupe)
Jeep® Grand Cherokee (mid-sized SUV)
Ram 1500 (full-size pickup)
Ram 2500 (heavy duty pickup)

When Fiat bought Chrysler for $4.35 Billion it raised a lot of questions: What types
of cars would they predominately sell? What would happen to the Chrysler brand?
Where would the company headquarters (HQ) be? What would the merger of the two
companies be named?
The latter of those questions has finally been answered to the tune of FCA – Fiat
Chrysler Automobiles, according to an AP news story. The new name comes complete with a new logo, as well as jointly traded FCA stock. One thing that is not changing is the wide array of brands housed under the FCA name: Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati and Ram.
Currently Fiat has a HQ in Milan and Chrysler in Detroit. Read more about the
new FCA in a Forbes article by Joann Muller, where she addresses the question of where the FCA corporate HQ will be.
With so many questions still unanswered about the FCA brand, one thing you can
know for certain is Rochester Hills Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram will continue to provide the same great cars, trucks and SUVs combined with our commitment to outstanding service that you’ve come to expect.

Chrysler was recently selected by DiversityBusiness.com as one of the Top 50 Companies Creating Opportunities for Multicultural Businesses. The 13th annual list is a result of an online election that involves over a million multicultural business owners. Online voters are asked to answer ten questions about company performance relating to the opportunities the companies provide to minority-owned businesses.
“Chrysler Group is celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of our supplier diversity program this year,” said Scott Kunselman, Senior Vice President of purchasing and supplier quality for Chrysler. “We remain as committed as ever to creating opportunities for minority-owned, women-owned and veteran-owned businesses because we believe that a diverse supply chain leads to better, more innovative products for our customers,” said Kunselman.
Chrysler has had a commitment for decades to increase purchasing from suppliers that are either minority-owned, women-owned, or veteran owned. Chrysler’s diversity goals require that ten percent of a Tier One supplier’s procurement purchases are sourced to minority suppliers. Earlier this year, Chrysler announced that it spent over two billion dollars with about 200 minority suppliers in 2011.
Chrysler continues to strive for diversity and supports several organizations that achieve minority sourcing goals, including the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council and the National Minority Supplier Development Council.
