Labor Day

Why Do We Celebrate?

In the late 1800s, many states designated the first Monday in September as a day to honor American workers. Monday was specifically chosen so that workers could potentially have a three-day weekend. On June 28, 1894, Congress officially established Labor Day as a national holiday.

How to Celebrate?

Many communities across the country host Labor Day celebrations that may include parades and festivals. If you really want to get into the true spirit of the holiday, you can try some of the following.

  • Look specifically for products produced in the United States.
  • Plan a trip to visit a local factory.
  • Give generous tips to any service workers you interact with.
  • Learn about the history and importance of labor laws here in America.
  • Make a goodie basket and take it to your local police or fire station.
