Chrysler During WWII: Supporting Allied Efforts

Chrysler did more throughout history than just make cars. In fact, the production of cars was paused for Chrysler during WWII.

Over the span of 13 months, Chrysler built a plant to participate in wartime production of tanks, guns, trucks, ammunition, and other military materials. One of the most famous tanks built was the M3 Grant tank. This was used by the British when fighting in North Africa. Another well-known tank created was the superior Sherman tank.

The history of Chrysler’s involvement as a supplier of military weapons is being recognized in a six-minute documentary. The documentary is called “Automakers and the Arsenal of Democracy” which premiered on the 75th anniversary of December 29th, 1940, the date of President Roosevelt’s historic radio broadcast.

Roosevelt’s “Arsenal of Democracy” radio broadcast told the United States citizens that Europe could do their own fighting, but they “ask us for the implements of war…which will enable them to fight for their liberty and for our security.”

Other automobile makers of the time helped with the war efforts, but this particular documentary focuses on the efforts made by Chrysler. To see the video, click here.

Welcome to Troy, Dr. Hamo!

We at Rochester Hills Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram know how great Troy, Michigan is. Now, our wonderful city is getting national attention with the arrival of Dr. Refaai Hamo.

Dr. Refaai Hamo is a Syrian scientist featured on Facebook, who has become an international sensation due to the compelling social media posts by the Humans of New York blog.

For those unfamiliar with Humans of New York, it is an online publication that highlights the lives of random people in New York City. Stories are sometimes sad, sometimes uplifting, but always eye-opening glimpses into someone’s personal life. The author of the blog recently spotlighted 12 Syrian families who have been cleared to come to America.

Dr. Refaai Hamo was one of the Syrians who were featured. He had a seven-part photo series where he describes his life as a scientist, his trouble with stomach cancer, and the impact that the war has had on his family. He lost his wife, daughter, and several other family members in a missile attack that hit his house.

In the last part of the series, Dr. Hamo mentioned his relocation to Troy, Michigan. People living in Troy immediately began commenting on the Facebook post offering their services for moving, healthcare, job searching, etc. Even influential people like Edward Norton have helped him by raising money for his cancer treatments.

Dr. Hamo has arrived in Troy and stated that he just wants the chance to feel human again. He also stated that he wants to get working and make a positive impact in America.
